Villa Cimbrone wedding photographers
Villa Cimbrone is a twelfth-century house on the edge of Ravello, with gardens that end on a terrace hanging over the sea. We have photographed two weddings there: for Wubit and Louis and for Alexandra and Brian.

The house dates back to the twelfth century. In the twentieth century it was the home of Lord Grimthorpe’s English family. It became a meeting place for English visitors on the Amalfi Coast and for the writers of the Bloomsbury Group. Since the 1960s the Vuilleumier family has looked after it; today it is a hotel with its own restaurant, Il Flauto di Pan.
The gardens were laid out in the early twentieth century, mixing English and Italian styles: stone arches, a small temple, statues and long paths under the trees. Wubit and Louis married on a lawn at the edge of the cliff, under a white canopy with the sea behind them. Alexandra and Brian also had their ceremony in the garden on the cliff, then walked with us along the winding paths of the estate.

The main path through the gardens ends at the Terrazza dell’Infinito, the Terrace of Infinity: a long balcony lined with marble busts, with nothing in front of it but the sky, the sea and the coast far below.
Ravello sits high above the water, so the light is often soft and hazy and the sea and the sky can melt into one pale colour. We love it: it turns the busts and the railing into silhouettes, like a scene from an old Italian film. It is also kind to faces and white dresses. Both of our couples had their portraits there.

For the ceremony Wubit wore an off-the-shoulder silk ballgown with a cathedral-length veil; in the evening she changed into a polka-dot look with sheer long gloves. Louis wore a white dinner jacket, then a black tuxedo.
After the portraits, dinner was set in the villa’s cloister: climbing vines and hanging glass globes under the Gothic arches, candles on white tables and the coast framed in the arches behind. They danced there too, under the green.
Alexandra and Brian chose the crypt instead, for a very intimate reception with their family and closest friends under the old vaults.
