Weddings at Borgo Argiano, at the southern edge of Chianti
Borgo Argiano is a small restored hamlet at the southern tip of Chianti Classico, twenty minutes from Siena, with vineyards and olive trees all around it. We photographed Crystal and Trevor’s wedding there, from getting ready in the hamlet’s rooms to the last song under the lights.
A hamlet in the vines south of Chianti
Borgo Argiano is in Pianella, in the comune of Castelnuovo Berardenga, on an estate of more than 200 acres of woods and vineyards with its own winery, bordered by the river Arbia. The hamlet has eleven apartments plus a separate Grand Suite for the couple and for a wedding you book the whole place, for three days or a week.
There is a small chapel in the middle of the hamlet, but Crystal and Trevor married outside, on the lawn between the olive trees, with roses on tall gold stands and a cypress and the open countryside behind them. Dinner was at one very long table on the brick paving in the heart of the hamlet, under a big tree and a canopy of fairy lights. The venue also uses its courtyard and lounge for dinners and a marquee for larger groups.
When the sky is grey
Not every day in Tuscany is blue. On Crystal and Trevor’s wedding day the sky over the hills was heavy and grey through the ceremony and a few guests kept white umbrellas by their chairs, just in case. It took nothing away from the photos: soft, even light is kind to faces and to white dresses, the peach roses looked deeper and the clouds gave the view some weight.
Inside the hamlet the light is quieter still. We photographed Crystal’s dress being fastened by her bridesmaids in the light from a single window, in black and white. At night everything happens under the lights strung over the paving, with candles all along the table.

Crystal wore a flowing gown with delicate lace, Trevor a beige suit. Their planner was Alessia B Weddings and the flowers by Stiatti Fiori, peach and white roses from the ceremony stands to the dinner table, held the whole day together. Their guests came out of the ceremony cheering with their arms in the air and then we took Crystal and Trevor out among the vines and fields for their portraits.
Dinner was Tuscan food by Guidi Lenci under the lights, with a neon sign at the end of the table that said “That’s Amore”. They cut a millefoglie, the traditional Italian wedding cake, shared their first dance under the stars and the dance floor stayed full late into the night.

Where is Borgo Argiano?
In Pianella, in the comune of Castelnuovo Berardenga, at the southern tip of the Chianti Classico area. Siena is about twenty minutes away.
Can we get married in the chapel at Borgo Argiano?
The hamlet has a private chapel in the middle of the borgo, a short walk from the Grand Suite. Crystal and Trevor chose the lawn among the olive trees instead. Ask the venue which one suits your guest list.
What if the sky is grey on our wedding day?
It happened at Crystal and Trevor’s wedding: heavy clouds all through the ceremony and the photos came out soft and even, with the hills still clear behind them. For real rain, talk to the venue about a plan B: Borgo Argiano mentions its lounge and a marquee.
Do you charge for travel to Chianti?
No. Travel is included anywhere in mainland Italy.
