Villa Cora wedding photographers

Weddings at Villa Cora, on the hill above Florence

Villa Cora is a nineteenth-century villa in the Oltrarno, in a centuries-old garden that looks over the Boboli Gardens and the roofs of Florence. We photographed Brooke and Damien’s wedding there: a ceremony full of traditions, dinner in the ballroom and fireworks to finish.

The villa and the garden

The villa was designed by the architect Pietro Camparini in a rich mix of styles and it was inaugurated when Florence was the capital of Italy. Over the years it hosted guests like the composer Claude Debussy and Eugénie, the wife of Napoleon III. It became a grand hotel in the late 1960s and reopened in 2010 after a renovation.

Around the house there is an Italian garden with centuries-old oaks. Brooke and Damien married outdoors in the garden, among white flowers, with their families and friends close around them.

Florence at golden hour

Florence is at its best in the last hour of the day, when the stone of the city turns warm and the hills behind it go blue. We took Brooke and Damien out for their portraits then, with the whole city below them and the dome of the Duomo in the frame.

Inside the villa the light changes completely: gold stucco, mirrors and chandeliers, then candles and big lampshades in the evening. We photograph rooms like these the way a director of photography would, letting the warm light do the work.

Their ceremony was elegant and intimate, with traditions of their own: their parents lit a candle together, white doves flew up after the first kiss and then the couple jumped over the broom, an old custom for starting a new life together.

Dinner was in the gilded ballroom, with white flowers by Il Giardino delle Fate and lights by Wedding Music and Lights. The day ended with fireworks over the garden.

The wedding was planned by The Tuscan Wedding and later featured by Style Me Pretty and Brides.
